The Best Practices for Content Repurposing

4 Simple Content Repurposing Best Practices to Follow

Each time I meet with a new or potential client, and we chat about how TCG might be able to help them, my goal is for them to walk away with something valuable. Because of our conversation, I want them to feel at ease or that they got even one tiny step closer to their goal. Whether that’s sharing a tool or a resource or giving my opinion, helping my circle succeed and stress less while getting there is just the big sister energy I strive for.

There are a few basic things to know about content repurposing before I give you the list of tools we use here at That Creative Girl to repurpose not only our content but our client content as well.

  1. Content Repurposing is as simple or as complicated as you make it. Choose your adventure wisely.

  2. Lean into tools that do the work for you, don’t fuss over every little thing.

And that is a nice transition into what we’re going to talk about today, the Toolkit or tech stack we use to repurpose content. These tools range from nice to have to absolute cannot live withouts and don’t worry, I’ll tell you why!

You wouldn’t be reading this if you weren’t at least somewhat struggling to create content consistently. Couple that with being an entrepreneur with a small team and 700 other tasks on your to-do list, and you'll find yourself on a hamster wheel of content to keep up. The solution to make the most of your existing content is content repurposing. (Read: taking your existing valuable material and transforming it into different formats or delivering it through various channels.) This strategic approach will breathe new life into your content and extend its reach. All while also building your authority and allowing you to work SMARTER.

TCG Content Repurposing Toolkit

You NEED to use a scheduler.

There is no way around this anymore, you are at a new level of content marketing, and at this level, there is no more manually posting each thing you share. If you want to multiply your reach, show up in more places, diversify your presence, and stay consistent, you need a scheduling tool.

Not only does using a scheduler help you show up in more places, but using one of these tools can also help you plan and organize your content. A social media scheduler will help you batch your content in advance, ensuring regular, consistent, valuable information to your audience. By scheduling your content, you can streamline your workflow, save time, and keep your audience engaged. Our favorite scheduler here at TCG is Later! You can try it for free by clicking here.

Some of my favorite Later features:

  • The ability to add notes to the calendar for brainstorming + placeholders

  • The media library for easy content repurposing

  • Built in Link in Bio page with insight tracking

  • Analytics built in

  • Story scheduling

  • Schedules to 7 platforms (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, TikTok, LinkedIn and YouTube)

Or if you’re looking for an always free option, check out the Meta Business Manager. If you’re logged into your Facebook account on your computer, copy this URL business.facebook.com and click “Planner” to schedule content on Facebook and Instagram.

Automate Whenever Possible

Repurposing content across multiple platforms and formats can be time-consuming. From getting the formatting right to uploading reuploading to a scheduler and much more! This can all be done by leveraging automation tools. These tools can simplify the process by automatically converting your content into different formats or sharing it across various platforms. For repurposing specific automation, we love Repurpose.io here at TCG. You set up workflows to automatically post your content from one platform to another. Or you can set it up to automatically save all your videos in one place for easier repurposing later. Check it out here.

Let the Data Tell The Repurposing Story

Analyzing the available data and insights is crucial to inform content repurposing decisions. To do this, start by looking at your Google Analytics or even the dashboard page on the backend of your website. Here you’re looking at:

  • Page views - were there any pages that have more visits that others, were the visits on a specific day, what is the goal of the page(s) that got visited the most?

  • Traffic sources - where are your website visitors coming from?

The next place to look would be Meta Business Suite and the insights dashboard of any other social media platform that you post on. Key insights to note:

  • What content got the most reach? Use the line graph on the insights overview page.

    • Did shares have an impact if the reach was high?

  • What content got the most comments? What was the topic?

While you’re looking at your content, try to take note of any patterns you might see, including what formats are performing the best and what you could lean into more. By leveraging this data, you can repurpose content that has proven successful, ensuring your efforts aren’t wasted and you get the best possible results.

Stay True to Your Core Message

Maintaining consistency in your messaging is vital for building a solid brand identity. When repurposing content, staying true to your core messaging is crucial. Review your brand guidelines, key messages, and values. Ensure that your repurposed content aligns with your brand's voice and tone to maintain a cohesive and recognizable presence across different channels. Whether repurposing a blog post into a podcast episode or transforming a webinar into a series of social media posts, consistency in messaging is key to reinforcing your brand identity.
