What is a content repurposing framework?

Tell me if this sounds familiar… you know, social media and content creation are important. You have a main source of content that you’re putting out regularly: a podcast, a membership, a blog, video webinars, a course, etc. You know you could do more with what you’re creating but can’t find the time or motivation to do it. You’re overwhelmed with all the directions you could go with content repurposing. You know there has to be an easier way.

Look, I get it. Creating high-quality content can be time-consuming and challenging, but it is crucial to building authority. The thing is, once you’ve published a piece of content, whether it's a podcast episode, YouTube video, blog post, or speaking engagement, the work of spreading your message has just begun.

Think about it. You’ve already done the hard work. Your content is solid—it deserves a bigger stage and a longer lifespan. Repurposing isn’t just about stretching your creative dollar (though it does that beautifully); it’s about working smarter. You get more eyeballs on your business, reinforce your authority in your niche, and get your audience to remember who you are and what you do, all without breaking a sweat.

In this blog post, I want to go through content repurposing frameworks:

  • What are content repurposing frameworks?

  • How a content repurposing framework helps you multiply your message.

A content repurposing framework can be looked at in two ways.

1. Automating the easy stuff

This is the easiest, most passive way to repurpose your content. There is a caveat here; you can't blanket the internet with the exact 1080 x 1080 square image on every platform you're not. It's not optimized for each platform that way. Many social schedulers will allow you to schedule multiple platforms at once and optimize for each in the process. My favorite tools for automating repurposing + how I use each:

  • Later: This powerful tool allows you to schedule six platforms, view your insights, and plan months ahead. I love that this app auto-posts *most* things so I can set it, forget it, and focus on engaging with my audience.

  • Repurpose.io: If you create a lot of video content [no matter the platform], this app is a MUST. It allows you to set up workflows to repurpose your video content to other platforms. It automatically removes the watermark from TikToks and can automatically Pin your Reels +  TikToks to Pinterest. I often use this platform to save my TikTok and Reels videos to Dropbox for later repurposing. I also use this platform to break down podcasts for repurposing and grabbing sound bites.

2. Getting Strategic w/ Content

This is a bit more time-intensive and will usually happen in cycles regularly. Content repurposing frameworks provide a systematic and strategic approach to repurposing your content. This helps us to ensure you don't miss any opportunities to reach a wider audience. With a content repurposing framework, you can easily create multiple pieces of content from a single source, saving time and effort.

Content repurposing frameworks are an excellent way to maximize the impact of your content and reach a wider audience. Repurposing your content can reinforce your message, increase your reach, and save time and effort. If you still need to repurpose your content, it's time to start. With a systematic approach, you can easily create multiple pieces of content from a single source and become an authority in your niche.

A content repurposing framework typically involves several key things:

Content Audit: Not Just a Check-Up, It’s a Strategy Session

Think of a Content Audit as your quarterly business review, but for your content. Regular check-ins (monthly or quarterly, based on your output) allow you to measure how your content is performing across different platforms. This isn’t just about seeing what’s hot and what’s not; it’s about strategizing for smarter content use.

As part of the Starter Kit Session, we dive deep into this audit to pinpoint your standout pieces that are ripe for repurposing. This step is crucial because it gives you the chance to step back and see the big picture—what’s engaging your audience, what’s driving traffic, and what’s falling flat. Understanding these patterns is key to refining your strategy and ensuring your content continues to work hard for your brand.

Content Bank: Your Content Command Center

A Content Bank is essentially your content command center. Here, every piece of content you’ve ever created—podcasts, blog posts, videos, presentation decks, you name it—is cataloged. Think of it as a dynamic library that grows with your business.

To simplify this process, I’ve created a handy Google Sheet template that helps you organize everything neatly. With this template, not only can you keep a bird’s eye view of your content landscape, but you also gain the superpower of searchability. Need to whip up a new campaign? No problem. Your content bank lets you quickly sift through past materials to find the perfect piece for repurposing, ensuring you’re never stuck for content ideas again.

Content Mapping: A Blueprint for Repurposing

Content Mapping is where the magic happens—it’s your plan for transforming each piece of content into multiple formats across various channels. For example:

  • Podcast Episode: For every new episode, create an audiogram video, a dedicated newsletter, a blog post with show notes and resources, a carousel post for social media, and a story suite to engage your followers.

  • Blog Post: From one article, develop a newsletter highlight, a carousel post summarizing key points, a talking head video to discuss the topic further, a story suite delivering value snippets, and an infographic to visually represent the data or insights.

This proactive planning help you ensure that every piece of content is primed for maximum impact, tailored for each platform it lives on.

Content Creation: Crafting with Purpose

With your content map as a guide, Content Creation becomes a focused effort rather than a scramble for ideas. This step is about taking those plans and breathing new life into your existing content. Whether it’s updating information, transforming a text-based post into a visual infographic, or breaking down a webinar into digestible video clips, each piece is recreated with purpose, ensuring your message stays fresh and relevant.

Content Distribution: Putting Your Content to Work

Finally, Content Distribution is where you bring your repurposed content to the forefront. Using scheduling tools, each piece is strategically released across your selected platforms—be it your website, various social media channels, or through email marketing. This organized dissemination ensures your content reaches your audience wherever they are, maximizing engagement and reinforcing your brand presence.

Following a content repurposing framework can help you get more value from your existing content and reach a wider audience without creating all new content from scratch. This can save you time and resources and help you maintain a consistent and coherent content marketing strategy.

Content repurposing involves choosing the right format based on your goals, adapting your content to suit the new format, and promoting your repurposed content to reach your target audience. By repurposing your content, you can transform your existing content into new forms that will resonate with your audience and keep your brand in mind. Whether you're a podcaster, speaker, or coach, a content repurposing framework can help you maximize the value of your content and take your content marketing to the next level.

Why This Matters to You

Look, the digital world is noisy, but repurposing helps you cut through that noise repeatedly. It’s about making sure your voice is heard, your brand is seen, and your business grows—without you needing to create new stuff every day.
